Having a post published - things to know

Anonymity and privacy
This blog is a public website - anyone with access to the internet can view it. While I want to provide a platform for young women with breast cancer to share their writing I also want to protect the privacy and anonymity of all writers. I have therefore set the following restrictions to personal information included in blog posts that will be published on this site:
  1. If you wish to be named as the author of your blog post, I will include either first name only, first name and initial of surname, or just initials. I will not be including full names. The reason for this is that if a full name is included, your post could come up if anyone searches for your name on Google - now, or any time in the future. I am thinking in particular of situations like where in the future a potential employer might Google search you!
  2. All other names within your blog (including hospital and medical staff names) will need to be anonymised, for example by using first name initials only.
  3. I will include photos with your blog post if you wish, but usually not of any people other than yourself. It is not possible for me to get permissions from other people in photos for all blog posts.
What happens when you submit a post to be included on the blog?
I will respond to you as quickly as I can to confirm receipt, and I will send you a copy of the text on this page. I will ask you to confirm that you have read and understood it, and to ask me if you have any queries. I will confirm with you whether you wish the blog to be published as an anonymous author, or if you wish to be named as the author either using first name, first name and initial of surname, or initials. I will also ensure all other names in the blog post have been anonymised - if I need to make any edits with regard to this I will let you know.
Once your post has been added to the site, I will send you the direct link to it. I will also tweet a link to the blog post using the Young Women's Breast Cancer Blog Twitter account @youngbcblog and share it on the Facebook page.

Comments on blog posts
All comments on the Young Women's Breast Cancer Blog are moderated. This means that if someone adds a comment on a blog post, it does not get published on to the website unless and until I approve it. I will not approve and publish any comments that contravene the guidelines for blog posts (eg that reveal identities, that are promotions or adverts) or that are spam, or are in any way unfriendly. If you do not wish for any comments to be allowed on your blog post then please let me know.

What information will I keep about authors of blog posts and how?
I will keep a copy of all emails sent to the ywbcblog@yahoo.co.uk email address.
For my own management of the blog I will keep a spreadsheet with the title of your blog post, your real name, your email address, and a link to the page of your blog post on the website. This is so that if for any reason I need to contact authors of blog posts in the future, I am able to do so, and so that if authors contact me in the future about posts previously published, I can quickly and easily find the right one/s.
I will not share your personal details with anyone else.

Deciding to have your post removed from the blog
If you have a blog published on the Young Women's Breast Cancer Blog and later wish to have it removed please email ywbcblog@yahoo.co.uk and this will be dealt with as quickly as possible.

If you have any queries about any of the above, or anything else, please email ywbcblog@yahoo.co.uk. I will be doing all I can to ensure this site is as safe an online space as possible.
